C19th Majolica Asparagus Plates

Description

A set of 4 French Majolica Asparagus Plates by Saint Amand ( 19th century) .

Each plate features a moulded design of seven asparagus spears with an artichoke and acanthus leaf,with a depression for lemon or sauce .One plate is stamped Saint Amandand the others are unmarked.however .

The Majolica factory which opened in 1818 in Saint Armand -les-Eaux in the north of France, not too far from Lille.This plate was made before 1890 as it is not marked on the back with the name of the country of origin.
